Although not much is told about Joseph in the New Testament, we know that he had a very strong impact on his legal son, Jesus Christ. Joseph was Mary's husband, a descendant of King David, and worked as a carpenter. The gospels confirm that Jesus was known as the Son of Joseph, the carpenter. It is also confirmed that Joseph raised Jesus in the Jewish faith and trained him in the trade of carpentry.
Much credit goes to Joseph when we see that Jesus was a loving, graceful, manly, hard-working, courageous, and prayerful man.

Geneology
Both the gospels of Matthew and Luke provide extensive genealogies for Jesus and his family tree. In both cases, Jesus' family is traced back through Joseph's side of the family. In the genealogies, Jesus is connected to many different important Jewish figures such as King David, Adam, and even God. In Matthew's genealogy, five women are included. This was likely to show that God's actions are unpredictable and usually do not coincide with preconceptions of people.
Death before Jesus' Public Life
Scholars believe that Joseph died before Jesus began his public life. This is because some people identified Jesus as the Carpenter Son of Mary. This is very contradictable to traditional Jewish customs in which the family lineage is traced back on the husband's side of the family. Since it is not the traditional way, it suggests that Joseph had passed away.
