The Many Titles of Jesus
During his time on Earth, Jesus gained various titles that described his actions, mission, and purpose. All of these titles given to Jesus reveal a profound truth about him and help us understand him better.

RabiiThe term "rabii" is used in the new testament to refer to Jesus fourteen different times. Rabii is a Jewish word meaning a highly respected teacher of theology or law. This title was so widespread that even Jesus' disciples referred to him as rabii.

ChristOne of the most important titles given to Jesus was "Christ." Christ comes from the latin word Christos, which translates as "Messiah," a latin word for annointed one or savior. Rather than the body, Jesus is considered the savior of our souls.

PriestA priest is someone that mediates between God and humanity. Basically, a priest is someone who connects others to God. While he was on Earth, Jesus did exactly that. Today, Jesus continues to connect others to God through the Eucharist.

ProphetThe word "prophet" is used to describe Jesus because he was a representative of God. Commonly thought of as someone who can predict the future, prophets speak for God and deliver his message. Jesus was literally the Word of God.

KingJesus is considered a very honorable king. A king is someone who rules over something. Kingship also entails servitude and care for his people. Jesus' kingdom is Heaven; he is the king of our souls.

Lamb of GodIn the past, lambs were sacrificed in order to cleanse one's sins. Lambs were considered the highest and most expensive of sacrifices and were highly symbolic. Jesus is the sacrificed lamb that allows us to be free from sins and enter heaven.

SaviorA savior is one that protects us from future and present danger. Jesus protected us from our sins in the past (sacrificed himself), present (guidance through the Holy Spirit), and future (second coming).

LordThe word Lord basically means a ruler or sovereign power. Through the Blessed Trinity, we recognize that Jesus is also the Father, the creator.
